Sidi Ifni, Morocco, in short
Sidi Ifni is a town on the Atlantic coast of southern Morocco, in the region of Guelmim-Oued Noun. Guelmim lies roughly 50 km inland. Spain occupied Sidi Ifni from 1934 and handed it back to Morocco in 1969, and the old centre still shows it: a former consulate, a cinema and the town hall stand together, a former church now serves the courts, and a lighthouse watches over the cliffs. The fishing harbour has been in operation since 1989.
This guide covers the town and the coast around it: the Legzira arch, the beaches and how to swim safely, surf breaks, Mirleft and Aglou, Tiznit, Guelmim and Fort Bou Jerif, plus weather, the road from Agadir and places to sleep. Prices are the ones listed for 2026, and they change.

Our picks: Sidi Ifni and Legzira tours
If Sidi Ifni itself is on your list, the two-day bivouac trips are the ones that name it on their route. For a day on the coast, the private trip suits you if you want a guide for your own party, and the shared Legzira trip is the simpler plan. The desert day trip is the one with the camel ride included. All of them start in Agadir, not in Sidi Ifni.

The town and its buildings
Sidi Ifni is small enough to see on foot. The former Plaza de EspaΓ±a is now Place Hassan II, and the buildings around the centre are white and blue, many of them in the Art Deco style of the Spanish period. Plan to look at them from the outside, and do not count on going inside the consulate, church, town hall, cinema or lighthouse.
The harbour is a working fishing port. Treat it as something to look at from the edge, not as a place with guided visits.

A few things to know before you go
Facts that save you time on the ground.
One arch remains at Legzira
One of the natural arches fell in September 2016. The beach is still worth the trip, but the tide sets your timing, and the walk down is steep. Check access on the day.
Legzira Beach βThe airport bus stops in Agadir
The airport shuttle runs between Agadir Al Massira and Agadir. From there you continue by long-distance bus, taxi or rental car, about 150 km in total.
Getting there βSwim only in watched areas
Moroccan beach flags use white, red and black. Do not apply colour rules from other countries, and ask on the spot which section is watched.
Beaches and safety βBring cash in dirhams
The currency is the Moroccan dirham (MAD). Small hotels and shops, and remote areas, may take cash only. Cash machines exist, but card withdrawals depend on your bank.
Where to stay βA Legzira day trip does not always include the town
The Legzira and Tiznit day trip from Agadir does not name Sidi Ifni as a stop. Check the route before you book.

Sidi Ifni: frequently asked questions
Where is Sidi Ifni?
On the Atlantic coast of southern Morocco, in the region of Guelmim-Oued Noun. Guelmim is roughly 50 km away, and Legzira lies about 10 km along the coast. From Agadir Al Massira airport it is about 150 km by road. See getting there.
Is Sidi Ifni still Spanish?
No. Spain held the enclave from 1934 and returned it to Morocco in 1969. The Spanish-period buildings in the centre are what is left of that time.
How do I get from Agadir airport to Sidi Ifni?
There is no direct bus from the airport. The airport shuttle takes you into Agadir (MAD 50 one way, MAD 80 return, in 2026), then you take a long-distance bus, a taxi or a rental car. A bus from Agadir takes about 4 hours, a car about 2Β½ hours from the airport.
Can I swim at the beaches around Sidi Ifni?
Only where the area is watched and conditions allow it. Currents, waves and tides can be strong, and no area is safe by default. Read the beach safety page before you go in.
What is the best time to visit?
It depends on the plan. Surf is smaller in spring and summer, and larger swells arrive in autumn and winter. Fog can sit on the coast. See weather and best time.
Is this site official?
No. This is an independent travel guide. It is not run by the town, a tourism board or any tour or hotel operator.
