Morocco surf on the Sidi Ifni and Mirleft coast
The southern Atlantic coast of Morocco has waves all year. Around Sidi Ifni you find a town beach break and a rocky point break. Further north, the beaches around Mirleft and Aglou are where the schools run their lessons. Surf schools here offer group and private lessons, and you can rent boards and wetsuits by the day.
Conditions change with swell and wind, so a good break one day can be flat or messy the next. Plan a few days, not a single session, and let your instructor choose the spot. If you arrive by plane, read the page on getting there from Agadir airport first, because the coast is a few hours from the airport by road.

Where to surf near Sidi Ifni and Mirleft
The main areas from south to north. Wind often decides which one works on a given day.
| Area | What you find | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Sidi Ifni | Town beach break, rocky point break, waves near the harbour | Do not assume you can enter the harbour area. Ask a local school first |
| Mirleft | Beaches including Sidi El Ouafi, Tamahroucht and Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah | Check wind and swell before you go. The school picks the beach |
| Aglou | Beach with a promenade and cliffs | Wind conditions matter a lot |
For beginners the usual choice is a lesson with a school around Mirleft, where the instructor picks the beach and drives you there. Advanced surfers who can reach the line-up on their own and judge the waves can explore the Sidi Ifni breaks. The town itself is described on the Sidi Ifni home page, and the nearby coast on the Mirleft page.
When to surf: seasons by level
You can surf all year. Swells are usually bigger in autumn and winter and often smaller in spring and summer. There is no single best season for everyone, so match the months to your level.
- Beginners: smaller days are usually easier to learn on, but wind can still make a spring or summer day difficult. Your school decides on the day.
- Advanced surfers: September to June is the usual window for exploring spots.
- Everyone: check the swell and wind with your school each morning rather than booking a fixed day far ahead.
Water temperature depends on the month. Ask your school what wetsuit they advise for your dates. For air conditions along the coast, see the weather and best time page.

Rental boards at School A go back by 19:00. After that, another rental day is charged. Lessons can change with the weather, and private lessons are only confirmed after you book. Children can take part if they feel comfortable in the water. Ask the school about a minimum age for your child.
Plan your surf trip
Most visitors base themselves in Mirleft or Sidi Ifni. Sidi Ifni is roughly 150 km and 2½ hours by car from Agadir Al Massira airport, and the coast road via Tiznit and Mirleft has narrower sections. Avoid driving it at night. The hotels page explains where to stay in town and on the coast.
Bring a rest day into the plan. Legzira beach lies about 10 km north of Sidi Ifni, and its arch and tides are covered on the Legzira page. Before you swim or paddle out anywhere, read the beach safety page for currents and flags. If you want to compare with another surf town, Taghazout has its own surf guide. For the flight and transfer, the Agadir airport guide covers the arrival side.
